WALKERS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
To become a government approved driving instructor, or ADI, you will need to pass three exams.
The first exam is a test of your theory knowledge based on the Highway Code, general road safety, driving techniques, mechanical knowledge and the theory of instructing a pupil. You will have 90 minutes to complete the test, and you must achieve an 85% pass mark. You must then sit a 15 minute hazard perception test consisting of 14 short video clips, some of which may have 2 hazards. On this test you must score 57 points out of a possible 75.
We will supply all the relevant study packs, and this section is mainly done at your own pace at home. Naturally, should you have any problems with this part; our trainers are always available for help and guidance.
The second exam is a test of your driving ability. You must demonstrate a very high standard of driving ability. All training will be given in car. The test itself lasts a minimum of 60 minutes and includes an eyesight test, and general maintenance questions. During the test you will be required to perform 4 out of 5 manoeuvres, together with an emergeny stop.
For this second part, we will give you a minimum of 15 hours tuition to reach the required standard.
The third and final exam is a test of your instructional ability. This test is split into 2 sections, each lasting approximately 30 minutes.
The first section will assess your ability to instruct a novice pupil, and the second phase will assess your instructional technique to a trained or a full licence holder. You must achieve a minimum of Grade 4 in both phases to pass.
Some establishments spend a high percentage of the training in classrooms, but all of our training is done in-car with just one other trainee, to ensure good standards of training.
For the Part 3 training, we willl give you 40 hours in car, and a further 20 hours whilst you work on a PDI licence before your first attempt at the test.
Prices for the complete course are from £2000 to include all of the above. DSA test fees are not included.
